During the meeting that took place on January 4, 2023, the Cabinet gave its approval to the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which will have an expenditure of 19,744 crore with the overarching objective to transform India into a global hub for the production, utilisation, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.
Both the process of India achieving energy independence and the process of major economic sectors being utilised will be aided by the Mission. The following is a list of the most important aspects of the Mission:
Mission will facilitate export opportunities by means of supportive policies and strategic partnerships, and will also support the creation of domestic demand by means of suitable targets and demand aggregation.
In the first stage, it was proposed that two separate financial incentive mechanisms each with an outlay of 17,490 crore up to 2029-30: An incentive for the production of electrolyzers and An incentive for the generation of environmentally friendly hydrogen.
For steel, mobility, shipping, decentralised energy applications, hydrogen production from biomass, hydrogen storage, and a variety of other applications.
The mission will identify regions that are capable of supporting large-scale production and/or utilisation of hydrogen and develop those regions as Green Hydrogen Hubs.
The Mission will coordinate the various efforts for the development of regulations and standards in line with the requirements of the industry for emerging
The Mission will be responsible for facilitating a public-private partnership framework for research and development known as the Strategic Hydrogen Innovation Partnership (SHIP).
The initial expenditures for the Mission will total 19,744 crore. This will include an expenditure of 17,490 crore for the SIGHT programme, 1,466 crore for pilot projects, 400 crore for research and development, and 388 crore for other Mission components.
The Government will create schemes that will follow these guidelines for the implementation of the various components.
